Innovative and holistic after-school activities for children: The Brainplex originally started as an after-school e-learning center for children. Today, we are building on this foundation by adding a slate of other after-school activities for children in preschool through the 7th grade. Our activity clubs provide children with opportunities to engage in experiential learning which allows them to develop academic and cognitive skills through inventive, progressive, research-based programs. We currently offer five after-school activities for children: our e-learning program, a Book Club, an Arts & Crafts Club, a Science Club, and a Movie Club. Our aim is to educate children while also entertaining them, promote a positive association with education, and create a lifelong love for learning. |

Book Club: Research has consistently shown that reading is one of the most beneficial childhood activities. Exposure to books has positive implications on the long-term development of children. At The Brainplex, our Book Club exposes children to a wide variety of writing, from short stories and novels to poetry and plays. Each session begins with children being read (or reading as a group) a piece of literature handpicked by The Brainplex teaching team. After reading, children are encouraged to explore and interact with the literature in a deeper manner. We organize hands-on activities relevant to what was read to help children develop their reading comprehension, vocabulary and grammar, and creative thinking skills.

Arts & Crafts Club:The merits of arts and crafts on childhood development are undeniable. In fact, a small town in Italy, Reggio Emilia, pioneered an approach to teaching and learning which emphasizes academic inquiry anchored by drawing, painting, and other arts. In The Brainplex's Arts & Crafts Club, we incorporate Reggio-inspired principles and practices to help deepen children's learning, allowing them to represent their ideas and explore their creativity through different art media. We strongly believe that children should be given wider exposure to arts and crafts, as the curiosity and creatively inherent inside every child can be constructively expressed through art. Dexterity, patience and concentration skills can also be honed through exposure to arts and crafts. |

Science Club:In traditional classrooms, children are often taught technical science knowledge in a rote manner. Facts are listed and then ingested by children who regurgitate them on exams. Exposure to scientific inquiry and hands-on learning is often given less importance. In The Brianplex Science Club, our goal is to help children explore the world around them in a hands-on, experiential manner. Our science projects promote critical thinking and help children understand the "how" and "why" of the scientific phenomena in our daily lives. We aim to expose children to an environment where they can learn, probe, explore, and solve scientific problems in a fun manner. |
 |
Movie Club: We often hear about the negative impacts of television and movies on children. Many of these critiques are valid; however, we strongly feel that there are also many benefits to exposing children to the right types of visual media. Children can develop their general knowledge, social skills, cultural awareness, and analytical skills through TV and movies. In The Brainplex Movie Club, we introduce students to a variety of movies, TV shows and documentaries. The media we handpick are educational, and provide for holistic learning experiences for children. Our sessions consist of more than just watching selected media. We promote analytical and critical thought and comprehension skills by having group discussions and activities before and after each viewing session. |
